Dusty Springfield , stage name of Mary Isabel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien (16 April 1939 Hampstead (London), 2 March 1999 Henley-on-Thames (Oxfordshire),) was a British singer. She was one of the most popular singers of the 1960s and was nicknamed The Queen of White Soul.
Forty years before Amy Winehouse, Dusty Springfield dominated the international charts in the 1960s with her very own interpretation of black soul music. Dressed in poppy dresses, a towering cotton candy hairstyle and kohl-black Cleopatra eyes, she was a real gay icon, who for years remained silent about her own sexual identity.
