Beautiful hand-signed EA etching entitled "Grijze facades along the water (Gray houses along the water)" by the Belgian painter, pastelist, graphic artist and etcher Albert Baertsoen, born in Ghent on January 9, 1866 and died there on June 9, 1922. His work includes landscapes and especially cityscapes, many of them in Ghent, but also in London during the First World War. In addition to painting, he also made etchings and pencil drawings. Baertsoen grew into one of the most important players in the Belgian and international art scene of the fin de siècle. He was only 22 years old when he won the gold medal at the Antwerp Salon in 1888. His work initially showed realistic style characteristics of the Dendermonde school, but evolved into realistic-impressionism.
