Art of the Present

The Belgian association Kunst van Heden, also known under the French name L'Art Contemporain, was founded in Antwerp on 1 March 1905. Its members included visual artists as well as important Antwerp patrons. The aim of the patrons who founded the association was to promote contemporary Belgian art. This was done through publications, lectures, donations and by holding exhibitions and organists of annual salons. During the Second World War, as well as during the First, the group was inactive. The tradition of the salons was resumed in 1947 and in 1955 the fiftieth anniversary was celebrated with a tribute exhibition. Four years later, in 1959, the association ceased to exist and the last exhibition was held.
