- "Wendelien Schönfeld (1950) is one of the most interesting contemporary print artists in our country. She has devoted herself to the technically extremely complicated medium of the colour woodcut.
- Her figurative prints do not have the stiffness that often clings to woodcuts. She draws with a gouge in the wood as with a pencil on paper. And with the different printing runs (a separate wood block is used for each colour in a print) she seems to be painting. In her head she mixes printing runs like a painter mixes paint.
Schönfeld completed her education at the Rijksacademie Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam in 1977, and has been active as an independent visual artist ever since. Her work - paintings, gouaches, wooden sculptures and colour woodcuts - is characterised by a lively use of colour and contemporary elements in the depictions. A landscape in which you feel the outdoors, for example, or a resembling and present portrait, or an interior in which incident daylight draws paths over the walls, strokes chairs and tables and reflects in floors."
