De Gemeente Amsterdam wilde met ingang van 1965 de vrije fotografie stimuleren en heeft daarvoor een tweejaarlijkse aanmoedigingsprijs voor beroepsfotografen onder de 35 jaar in het leven geroepen. Voor de prijs in 1967 had de jury uit tien inzendingen een keuze gemaakt en deze werd tentoongesteld. De winnende fotograaf (Fred den Ouden) werd een opdracht verleend door de Gemeente Amsterdam en deze foto's werden door het Stedelijk Museum aangekocht.
Deze catalogus laat de ingezonden foto's van de deelnemers zien.
