Beautiful silkscreen print by Pieter Bijwaard. The size is 65 x 50 cm. on thick laid paper. Signed and numbered, edition of 125 copies. Never framed. In excellent condition. It is not easy to define the work of Pieter Bijwaard. So many styles and techniques, loose, tight, colorful, black/white, figurative and abstract. Yet each image is unmistakably from the same maker. Regardless of the technique used, there is always an almost tangible world behind the form. What it is about remains a mystery, but the image that is perceived takes the viewer somewhere mysterious and intense. The image can be sober, but also complex and elaborate. Experiment and skill go hand in hand, so that the work radiates a lively professionalism. The artist retains the freedom to explore and change at all times. What all the works have in common is the size (32.5 x 25 cm) in which they are depicted. Exceptions to this are the drawings made for the many books that Pieter Bijwaard made, usually in collaboration with writers and poets. Stephan de Smet and Pieter Bijwaard Since 1995, graphic designer Stephan de Smet and visual artist Pieter Bijwaard have been working together regularly. This collaboration has so far resulted in the publication of seventeen books, some of which have been commissioned and some of which have been self-published. De Smet and Bijwaard complement each other in their collaboration. A process of weighing and considering, of leaving out and searching for what is essential. The combination of the talents of both artists gives the products something special. Each book begins as a journey, for which the necessary materials are gathered or made. The purpose of the journey is partly determined by spontaneous ideas and thoughts. The final result of this collaboration is characterised by originality, beauty and expertise.
