Beautiful large pastel and chalk painting by Louis Albert Roessingh. He was a Dutch painter and poet. He attended the local Rijks Hogere Burgerschool and then moved to Antwerp where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts.
During a cycling trip in Drenthe he discovered Elp, where he went to live. Roessingh painted in an impressionistic style. He elaborated his sketches of the nature of Drenthe in his studio in Antwerp in oil paintings. This specialization was very similar to the work of Egbert van Drielst and Jozef Israëls. Much of his work is in museums and private collections.
The work is in good original condition and signed and dated 1941 (?) lower left. The pastel measures 55 x 37 cm and is framed in the original frame. Nice work.
