Kees SALENTIJN (Amsterdam 1947)
Education: Kees Salentijn was educated at the Amsterdam State Academy of Fine Arts and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy.
He lives and works in Amsterdam.
Salentijn's first works are classified under his 'Spanish period' and are characterized by bullfights - which represent Salentijn's emotional life - depicted in mixed techniques. In his 'black period', halfway through the 80s, the fight that Salentijn feels when making each painting is central. In 1986 Salentijn develops a painting style that he himself calls Mediterraneanism. The visual language of this art, characterized by a dominance of the sun and colors, originates from music and nostalgic feelings. The coming together of figuration and abstraction changes from 1990 to a more expressive, narrative figuration.
