Lived and worked in Amsterdam, Laren (1943) and since 1962 in Bergen op Zoom. He was a student of the National Academy of Visual Arts in Amsterdam. HCKranenburg painted, watercoloured, drew (also with pen), etched and lithographed cityscapes, landscapes and portraits. He also made wall paintings and was a gifted sculptor. Yet he is best known for his oil paintings.
He painted in a smooth impressionist style in the style of the Hague School. His rich color palette was very pronounced and the paint was applied directly to the canvas with smooth brushstrokes.
