Gust(aaf) Van Steenwegen (Antwerp, February 11, 1905 – there, April 16, 1986)
He was a Flemish expressionist painter and draftsman. He was a member of the Antwerp art circles Modern Art and Art of the Present and participated in the exhibitions organized by the Cercle Artistique of Antwerp. Together with Jan De Schutter and Jack Godderis, he founded Het Vrije Atelier in Antwerp and also taught there. Gust Van Steenwegen painted landscapes, marines, flowers and still lifes. He also practiced behind glass painting. The “village” from 1931 is included in the collection of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA).
