Tadema studied at the Education of Art Teachers in Amsterdam and then at the State Academy of Art. He became an advertising illustrator for Rotogravure in Leiden and then for De Groene Amsterdammer. His specialty was science fiction comics. Tadema was called "the father of Dutch science fiction comics". Together with his wife, Bob Tadema-Sporry, he wrote and illustrated many travel stories, which appeared in Elseviers Weekblad and Margriet. He also illustrated many books such as 'Ivanhoe' (1939), 'The most exciting adventures of Robinson Cruso' (1939-1942), 'Pim's Wereldreis' (1943), 'Hell dan Atlantis' (1947), 'The Mechanical continent' ( 1947/48) etc.
