Ap Sok werd in 1959 door de grillige dynamiek van een verbrand olijfbos geïnspireerd tot het maken van deze serie. Een verschroeide wereld van kale wringende takken en stammen. Plotseling voorgoed gestremd in hun bewegingsdrift, als met stekels bezet in een laatste grimmige afweer tegen de dood.
