Founded in 1985
Neo-geo is an art movement that has been mainly made in the United States since 1985, and can be seen as a continuation of the post-painterly abstraction. In contrast to traditional abstract art, neo-geo does not involve a unique, pure form of painting. Works of earlier abstract art are often used as inspiration, such as De Stijl, Suprematism, but also, for example, op art. The paintings within the neo-geo are painted in harsh colors and offer a critique of the depersonalization and systematization of Western society.
