Founded in 1868 - dissolved in 1875
The group La Société Libre des Beaux-Arts arose from the desire to promote a freer, realistic art. They rebelled against the academicism that prevailed among the older generation. This association would also gradually bring about a change in the rigid academic scene of the time. The association was eventually dissolved because the objectives were achieved. Many members then transferred to the new association La Chrysalide.
