Photorealism

Photorealism, also called hyperrealism or superrealism, was a movement in the 60s and 70s of the twentieth century within painting and sculpture. It is a figurative style in which reality is represented as realistically and neutrally as possible. The artists of photorealism worked in different ways and captured different subjects. The works became new and contemporary as it drew attention to the media images that influence our perception of reality. The paintings within photorealism are usually copied from an image, so it is not a direct representation of reality. This deception, together with the great degree of detail, gives the works an unrealistic, or surrealistic character.
