Deutscher Kunstlerbund

With the founding of the Deutscher Künstlerbund, a supraregional association was active in Germany for the first time. The founders wanted to get rid of the restrictions imposed by the national cultural authorities. The aim of the association was to guarantee the freedom of art, to provide a public forum for different artistic trends and to support young artists. This happened, among other things, at the annual exhibitions that took place in various German cities, and sometimes even in other countries. Until 1936, the association offered the public a remarkable spectrum of a high artistic level. The Deutscher Künstlerbund was used to express artistic ideas without government interference. The breakthrough of modern art is therefore linked to the history of the Deutscher Künstlerbund. The Deutscher Künstlerbund was closed during the Nazi regime, but was re-established in 1950. Now the association influenced the cultural and political life of post-war Germany. This still applies today. The association still plays an important role in the dialogue between the public and the artist. They also represent the interests of their members, of which there are about 650 today.
