Artists Association De Vishal

The Vishal is an exhibition space located on the Grote Markt in Haarlem. The space is rented exclusively by the artists' association De Vishal. As an association, De Vishal has a social function and acts as a network for its members. Every year 10 exhibitions are organized, which are open to the public free of charge. In this way there is as accessible as possible access to the current visual art made by the members of the association.

The exhibition hall was built in 1769 as a covered fish market. It served as such until the Second World War. After the war, the hall was used for various purposes, until it became an annex of the Frans Hals Museum in 1961. When there was no more room in the Frans Hals Museum for the Haarlem artists, they campaigned for their own space to exhibit. In 1993, De Vishal was subsequently made available by the municipality to the artists' association of the same name.
