Founded in 1910 - dissolved in 1925
The North Holland village of Bergen became an attractive place for artists in the early 20th century. This is where the very first expressionist artists' movement in the Netherlands, also known as the Bergen School, arose. Expressionism was characterized by cubist influences, saturated colors and strong contrasts. The preferences of the painters went out to the still life and the human figure.
