Painter, sculptor, installation artist.
Education:
Visually, Joseph Semah is self-taught; however, he was educated at Tel Aviv University.
Semah lives and works in Amsterdam.
The subject of Semah's art is the relationship of communities to their own culture and history. At the root of his own conceptual and visual world lies the long tradition of liberal humanist philosophy. Semah also sees his artworks as part of his own ongoing research into tolerance and the relationship of people to each other. The history of the Hebrew language is also important to him; he grew up in Tel Aviv, where he lived since 1950, and his grandfather preached in the Jewish community for tolerance between different religious communities. In his work, Semah also shows how Hebrew language, tradition and culture influence Western artists. In 1973 Semah left for Europe, where he worked in various countries before settling in Amsterdam in 1980.

Joseph Semah's work has been exhibited in several Dutch museums, as well as in other countries including Germany and Turkey.
